Here are a few of my favorite Capital Region Websites:

Rensselear Outing Club - or the ROC - is a Union-funded club at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The club enjoys hiking, kayaking, caving, climbing, and all sorts of outdoors activities. While I am not a student at RPI - I love to check out the trips they are taking and follow their lead.

Empire Orienteering Club (EMPO) provides instruction in the sport of orienteering, and produces detailed orienteering maps of public parks and private venues in the Capital District of New York State.

New York's Watchable Wildlife - From their Website -"Whether it's the spectacle of a soaring eagle or a glimpse of a river otter, here you'll find what you need to plan a great wildlife viewing experience in New York State. DEC's wildlife experts help you learn where to find wildlife, what sounds to listen for, or when to look for your favorite animal. See our full list of wildlife species.  Subscribe to NYWatchableWildlife!   By subscribing to NY Watchable Wildlife, you will receive information on free Watchable Wildlife events, new sites to visit and wildlife to see throughout New York - right in your email inbox!  Watch a clip about wildlife photography or bird watching on DEC TV.  See young peregrine falcons in Albany on our live webcam."

The Edmund Niles Huyck Preserve is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to preservation, education and research. The Edmund Niles Huyck Preserve and Biological Research Station, is located southwest of Albany, N.Y. The original 500 acres of the Preserve, established in 1931 have gone undisturbed since the late 1800s. An additional 1500 acres have been added within the watershed since 1967.   The original charter of the Preserve states that its purpose is "to preserve the natural beauty of the Rensselaerville Falls, Lake Myosotis, Lincoln Pond and the land around them...and to increase the general knowledge and love of nature."

Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady County, Inc. is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity acts as Social Advocate, Builder and Banker. This unique model enables low income, inner-city families unable to qualify for conventional mortgages, an opportunity to own a new, simple, decent home for about the same monthly money as they would pay for a flat or apartment in the inner-city. Volunteer labor helps reduce the cost of the homes.
